What do children think about healthy eating? How can this topic be integrated into maths or art lessons? In the Active School programme launched by the Hungarian Association of Student Sports, KOMETA addressed primary and secondary school pupils in the Healthy Eating Week campaign (18-22 March 2024), encouraging them to exercise and eat healthily. The schools that were the most clever were rewarded with a gift and the most clever schools also received a KOMETA product package .
Eat more healthily, eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, drink plenty of water and exercise more. How can these tiredly repeated phrases be brought to life in a way that really reaches young people? So that it can be integrated into their daily lives? This is the aim of the Active Schools Healthy Eating Week campaign.
The schools that joined the campaign showed in a variety of ingenious videos how healthy eating can be integrated into almost every lesson.
Healthy snack at the Éva Janikovszky Éva Elementary School and Elementary Art School in Szeged
In maths, for example, you can calculate nutritional values, in foreign languages you can learn the vocabulary of healthy eating. In technology and life skills, fruit salad and fruit skewers are prepared. In English class, you can write a poem on the theme of water consumption and healthy living, or collect proverbs and sayings related to food.

In physics class you can do calculations on sugary drinks, in biology class you can learn about the food pyramid, and in singing class you can learn songs about fruit.
And of course, the applicants also incorporated movement into the programme, with flash mobs, acrobatic performances and line-up competitions to show that sport is a key part of a healthy lifestyle.
Water was the focus of the week in Barcs
Those educational institutions that joined the Active School Programme and participated in the Healthy Eating Week campaign could enter a few minutes of video summary to win KOMETA prizes, which have already been awarded. Of the 20 winning entries, the jury found the most valuable creative content from the István Király Elementary School in Székesfehérvár, the Hunyadi Mátyás Hunyadi Tagiskola of the Rákóczi Ferenc II Elementary School in Berettyóújfalu and the Éva Janikovszky Elementary School and Primary Art School in Szeged. These schools were each awarded an Active Sport voucher worth HUF 200 000 gross, which the schools can use to buy sports equipment. KOMETA Special Prize was awarded to the Széchényi Ferenc High School and College in Barcs. The special prize, a KOMETA product package worth HUF 15 000, was presented to the institution by Tibor Hollósy, Director of Agricultural Development at KOMETA.
